Documents requested by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) requires three steps to complete before the documents can be accepted in the UAE.  These three steps require State certification, U.S. Department of State certification in Washington, D.C., and Embassy legalization.

For example, if you need your California marriage certificate certified and legalized for the United Arab Emirates, the certificate will require California State certification, U.S. Department of State certification in Washington, D.C., and UAE Embassy attestation. The processing time is typically 2-3 weeks but may take longer if you have documents from other States.

The most common documents we certify and legalize for the UAE are diplomas, transcripts, marriage certificates, certificate of free sale, commercial invoices, and power of attorney documents.  It’s important for you to know what documents are being requested in order to avoid any delays or additional costs.

For education documents (Example: diplomas, transcripts, etc…), the Embassy has strict requirements (See below).

Diplomas and Transcripts for the UAE:
In addition to the US Department of State certification, please be advised that a Proof of Accreditation is required. The educational institution must be located in the US and regionally accredited by NEASC (CIHE), MSA (CHE), NCA (HLC), SACS (COC), NWCCU, or WASC (ACCJC-ACSCU). To show proof of regional accreditation, please visit the CHEA Database (link is external) of Institutions and Programs and print your institution’s accreditation information.

The Embassy of the United Arab Emirates has fees ranging from $45 to $600.  Most business document requires a $600 money order payable to the Unites Arab Emirates.  The cost for personal documents is only $45 each.  Please note that the rates quoted is a good faith estimate at the time of this article.
