We can help you obtain a California Apostille for a Travel Consent Letter.
The purpose of a travel consent letter is to allow a child to leave the country with one parent, both parent, or with a person who is not a parent (friends, other family members, etc..). This is to prevent a child from being taken outside of the United States without permission.
It’s important to know what documentation will be requested from all countries your child will visit including leaving the U.S. and returning back to the U.S. A Travel Consent Letter usually includes the name of the child, the time and day the child will be leaving the country, with whom the child will be with, and when the child will return. Be sure to include all the necessary information including what type of identification the child will require (Passport, State ID Card, Birth Certificate, etc…)
A California Apostille is issued for documents sent to countries who are members of the Hague Apostille Convention. I’ve outlined the following steps required in order to obtain a California Apostille.
Step 1: Determine what information to include in a Travel Consent Letter including if the document should be written in English, another language, or both. In some cases, it’s important to include the child’s birth certificate, passport, parents marriage certificate, parents divorce decree, court order, etc…
Step 2: Either hand write or type the letter (Typed letter is preferred). The letter will need to be notarized by a California notary. If you are located in or near Los Angeles, we provide complimentary Los Angeles Notary Service. If not, you can find a local notary near you or have a traveling notary meet you at your location.
Step 3: Have the document notarized. The signer(s) will need to appear before the notary and present a valid I.D. card. The notary will then notarize the signature(s) on the document and attach a document called a California Acknowledgment. Most notaries have this document on hand but if not, we can email it to you.
Step 4: Mail in the notarized document to our location for fast same-day processing. Be sure to include our California Apostille Order Form. We recommend sending in your document by either FedEx or UPS.
Once your document has been processed, we’ll overnight the document by FedEx Priority Mail for next business morning delivery. We ship by FedEx unless you request otherwise. Additional shipping fee applies for international delivery.
We accept cash, money orders, certified bank checks, Paypal.com, credit cards, and checks. If you make payment with a personal or business check, there may be a 7 business day hold time for clearing of funds. For faster processing time please pay with a credit card.
Apostilles can be complicated. Don’t leave this process to untrained employees or non-professionals who do not fully understand the California Apostille process and the unique requirements of certain countries. Your paperwork could be rejected costing you time and money. Don’t let this happen to you!
