In Washington, D.C., federal government documents can either be authenticated through the Secretary of D.C. or the U.S. Department of State – Office of Authentications. For example, If you need an FBI Background Check Apostille, you’ll need to first contact an FBI Approved Channeler in order to help expedite the process. An FBI authentication letter can only be authenticated through the U.S. Department of State. Some Apostille service companies may recommend authenticating your documents through their State’s Secretary of State but we don’t recommend that you do that. It more likely than not that they do not have the experience and resources we have.
