California Apostille and Notary Service

Certain documents require notarization by a California notary prior to becoming eligible for a California Apostille.  These documents are: Power of Attorney, Affidavit, Copy of Driver License, Copy of Passport, Copy of Diploma, and more!

The California Secretary of State authenticates signatures only on documents issued in the State of California signed by a notary public or the following public officials and their deputies:

  • County Clerks, Registrar-Recorder
  • Court Administrators of the Superior Court
  • Executive Clerks of the Superior Court
  • Officers whose authority is not limited to any particular county
  • Executive Officers of the Superior Court
  • Judges of the Superior Court
  • State Officials

Another words, if you need an Apostille for your documents and it’s not signed by a California public official, you can meet with a local California notary who will notarize your signature on the documents.  It’s extremely important that your notary notarizes the documents correctly or the documents will be rejected either by the California Secretary of State or the destination country.  If you are located in Los Angeles County, we provide complimentary Los Angeles mobile notary service at no extra fee (Restrictions apply – Call for details).

Before you hire a local California notary, it’s important we speak with the notary to ensure that they do their job correctly in order to avoid any errors.  99.9% of notaries are unaware on how to complete documents properly for international use.

Our California Apostille office is located minutes away from the Secretary of State in Downtown Los Angeles. With over seven years of experience, you can feel comfortable knowing we’ll get the job done right the first time.

Apostilles can be complicated. Don’t leave this process to untrained employees or non-professionals who do not fully understand the California Apostille process and the unique requirements of certain countries. Your paperwork could be rejected costing you time and money. Don’t let this happen to you!

Diploma Apostille

Obtaining an Apostille for a School Diploma in California is simple!  The first step is to have the document notarized correctly in order for the California Apostille to be stapled to either the original diploma, a color copy of the original diploma.  In the example provided below, you’ll notice that a California Jurat and the notary’s seal is stamped directly onto the diploma itself.

If the notary does not have a Jurat stamp, then a document called the “California Copy Certification by Document Custodian” can be used.  We can email you this document upon request.  The notary will fill in the information and attach the “California Copy Certification by Document Custodian” to the original diploma or a color copy of the original diploma.

If you live in Los Angeles County or the surrounding areas, we provide professional complimentary Los Angeles notary service for documents which require a California Apostille.

If you have already left the country, don’t worry.  You have several options which I’ve outlined below on how to get a California Apostille for a school diploma.  Keep in mind you always have the option to use your original dipoma or make a copy of it.

Option 1: Send your document to a friend in California who will meet with a California notary.  The notary will fill in the “California Copy Certification by Document Custodian” and will attach this document to the color copy of the diploma.  Then your friend can mail us the document with our California Apostille Order Form.

Option 2: Contact the school to have a notary meet with a representative to have your diploma notarized.  The notary will fill in the “California Copy Certification by Document Custodian” and will attach this document to the color copy of the diploma.  Then the school can mail us the document with our California Apostille Order Form.

Option 3: Fly back to California to meet with a local notary.  The notary will fill in the “California Copy Certification by Document Custodian” and will attach this document to the color copy of the diploma.  Then you can mail us the document with our California Apostille Order Form.

We also specialize in notarizing school transcripts for a California Apostille.  It doesn’t matter what school, high school, college, or university you got your diploma from.  We can help!

California Apostille School Diploma and Transcripts

If you need to obtain a California Apostille for your school diploma and transcripts, you will first need to contact the official who maintains the records at the school to schedule a time for a notary to travel to the school to notarize the transcripts.  Some schools will have a notary on staff so be sure to ask before paying a notary to visit the school.

The transcripts will generally be sealed, embossed, and include a signature from the school official.  The notary will attach a California Acknowledgment to the transcripts and the acknowledgment will be stapled behind the page signed and embossed by the school official.

Schools generally do not notarize diplomas because diplomas are typically ordered and send directly to the students.  A work-around is to make a copy of the original diploma and take the copy to a local notary who will attach a California Copy Certification by Document Custodian to the copy of the school diploma.  The holder of the diploma will take an oath that the copy of the diploma is a true copy of an original in his/her possession.

Once the school diploma and transcripts have been notarized, you can now send the documents to our address for processing.  We only accept diplomas and transcripts which are notarized by a California notary public.  We can process your documents with the Los Angeles Secretary of State in one business day.  Here is the link to our California Apostille order form:

California Affidavit Apostille

Do you need a California Apostille for your affidavit?  For your affidavit to be eligible for a California Apostille,  a California Notary must take your oath and notarized the document.  The Los Angeles Secretary of State will authenticate the notary’s seal on the affidavit and attach the California Apostille to the document.

An affidavit is a written sworn statement of fact voluntarily made by signer under an oath or affirmation administered by a person who is authorized to do so ( A Notary Public).  For example: If you want to write a statement to the fact that you don’t want the inheritance your father left you in Poland, you can write out an affidavit (sworn statement) and take an oath that everything you wrote on that document is true.  Keep in mind that you will need to take an oath and sign the document in front of a notary.  The notary will then attach a California Jurat.
