If you need a California Apostille for documents which require a notary, you will need to make sure the documents are notarized correctly for acceptance to the destination country which is a member of the Apostille convention.
For documents which require a notary (Power of Attorney, Affidavit, Agreements, etc…), you will need a local notary to notarize the signatures on the document before mailing us your documents. If the document does not contain the correct notarial wording (acknowledgement or jurat), your documents will be rejected by the California Secretary of State in Los Angeles.
To eliminate any confusion, it would be best if the local notary can stamp the signed page with either an acknowledgement stamp or jurat stamp. Not every notary will carry these stamps so call several notaries in the area.
You can copy and paste the wording from the California Secretary of State website under the California Acknowledgement section if you would like to include the wording on the page. Click to open the PDF to download the file.
If the document requires the signer to be sworn in (Affidavit), then a Jurat stamp can be placed on the signed page. You can copy and paste the wording from the California Secretary of State website under the California Jurat section if you would like to include the wording on the page. Click to open the PDF to download the file.
It’s extremely important that the correct and up-to-date notarial wording is used. The California Secretary of State is very specific as to the wording and will reject your documents if any words are omitted or if the notary does not do their job correctly.
We do provide complimentary Los Angeles notary service for our clients. If you live in Los Angeles or the surrounding areas, please call us for specific instructions.
Having all the important information on the same page ensures that the California Apostille will be placed on the actual document rather than being attached to an acknowledgment or jurat.
