A document notarized in California must receive an apostille from the State of California. For example, if your document was notarized in San Francisco, your document must receive an apostille from the California State office. An apostille verifies the signature and seal of the notary public. The State will also very that the document contains proper notarial wording. You cannot apostille a California notarized document in another US State.
In a handful of US States, a notarized document will also require county clerk authentication before the Secretary of State will attach the apostille. These States are: New York, Kentucky, Hawaii, Maryland, and Tennessee. The State of California does not require this step.
We can apostille documents notarized in any of the 50 US States including documents notarized at any US Embassy or US Consulate office destined for another country. There are currently 110 countries who are members of the Hague Apostille Convention.
Before mailing in your documents to our office, please contact make sure you have the following completed:
- Your documents have been notarized.
- The notary has places his/her seal and signature on the documents.
- The notary has also indicated the person who’s signature has been notarized.
- The notary has dated the date of the notarization.
- Proper notarial wording has been added by the notary per State law.
- You have the correct order forms from International Apostille Services, Inc.
